Our Services

We assess the health risks and potential hazards in a workplace from various industries such as factories, industrial units, hospitals and construction sites. Our highly experienced and qualified assessors will use their expertise and equipment to assess the short and long-term effects on health arising from exposure to hazards such as electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure and help ensure that the business in question is meeting its legislative requirements.

EMF Monitoring

Following the adoption of the EU EMF Directive 2013/35/EU, The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work (CEMFAW) Regulations 2016 came into effect in the UK on 1 July 2016 from the HSE.

Its purpose is to ensure employers comply with their duties under the EU EMF Directive in order to protect their employees from the known Health effects resulting from exposure to high levels of electric, magnetic & electromagnetic fields, or “EMF’s”.

EMF’s are emitted from all electrical & electronic equipment. The Health effects caused by electromagnetic fields depends on their frequencies & the intensity to which the employee is exposed, and therefore needs to be assessed.

EMF Risk Assessments

The EMF Regs from the HSE came into effect on July 1st 2016 (The Control Of Electromagnetic Fields At Work or CEMFAW) to protect employees from exposure to EMF’s. Due to the potential health effects of EMF’s in the workplace all companies are required to undertake a risk assessment of EMF exposure to their workforce.

If EMF’s reach certain levels they have an adverse effect on the health of those exposed in two ways 1) Direct effects such as nausea, headaches, vertigo, heating-up of body tissue, nerves or internal organs and 2) Indirect effects such as interfering with pacemakers, body implants, body piercings etc. The type & extent of these effects is dependent on the type of electronic equipment used & the frequency band(s) of the EMF’s it emits.

EMF Surveys

Your workplace could be a potential source of electromagnetic fields that can cause adverse health problems. In order to ensure that you are operating in a safe working environment, call Scholes EMF for an electromagnetic field survey and  assessment.

Electromagnetic radiation is generated by different sources at your site premises – from low-frequencies of radio base stations, mobile phone base stations and laser bar-code readers to high-frequency applications such as x-rays. The health risks caused by electromagnetic fields depend on the field intensity.

EMF Testing

To ensure you fully comply with the CEMFAW Regs we undertake an initial EMF Audit and Risk Assessment at your site, then we will conduct an on-site electromagnetic field test and monitoring service using the latest state-of-the-art equipment. We provide a comprehensive & easy-to-understand Report including monitoring analysis, comparisons against the specific Exposure Limit Values (ELV’s) / Action Levels (AL’s), and any specific recommendations / EMF Action Plan needed to meet any regulatory requirements at your site.
